To ensure the health and safety of international travelers and reduce the risk of cross-border transmission of COVID-19, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China announced on July 20 that the practice of boarding with negative results of COVID-19 nucleic acid tests for passengers taking flights to China will be gradually implemented.

COVID-19 nucleic acid test is currently the most effective testing method recognized by all countries, and more and more countries have testing capabilities. The Chinese Embassies will have full communication and consultation with the host countries and seriously evaluate their nucleic acid testing capabilities and other relevant conditions. When conditions permit, the Embassy will release the implementation schedule and arrangements for the specific country. After the implementation of the above measures in a country, Chinese and foreign passengers taking flights to China from that country shall complete COVID-19 nucleic acid tests within 5 days before boarding. The tests shall be conducted in institutions designated or approved by the Chinese Embassies or Consulates. Chinese passengers are required to take photos and upload their negative results of COVID-19 nucleic acid tests using the international version of the health QR code mini-program on Wechat. Foreign passengers should apply for the Health Declaration Letters with negative results of COVID-19 nucleic acid tests from the Chinese Embassies or Consulates. Passengers’ health QR code status and Health Declaration Letters will be checked by airlines before boarding.

Passengers taking flights to China should pay close attention to the notifications from the Embassies and Consulates at the boarding and transit countries, and make proper arrangements for personal travel and nucleic acid tests.
