In April 1992, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Mr. Qian Qichen sent an official letter to Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zvonimir Šeparović, announcing recognition of independence of the Republic of Croatia by the Government of the People's Republic of China. In May, High Representative of the Chinese government, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dai Bingguo signed with the representative of the Croatian government, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Božidar Gagro, "Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Croatia". During the same month, China voted for the Resolution No.753 of the UN Security Council supporting the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations.

In June 1993, Croatian President Mr. Franjo Tuđman paid an official visit to the People's Republic of China, on which occasion both sides signed "Joint Declaration between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Croatia", "Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia Concerning the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments", "Agreement on Cultural and Educational Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia", "Agreement on Maritime Transport between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia", "Protocol on Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia", and other important agreements. In September, of the same year, Chinese Vice Premier and Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Qian Qichen announced that China would send humanitarian aid for Croatian refugees worth 1.4 million RMB.

In February and April 1998, Croatian President Franjo Tuđman and Chinese President Jiang Zemin exchanged official letters on developing bilateral relations between the two countries.

In June 2000, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Mr. Li Peng paid an official visit to Croatia. Later in October, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Mr. Zdravko Tomac paid an official visit to China.

In February 2001, Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi paid an official visit to Croatia. Later in March, Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs Tonino Picula paid an official visit to China.

In April 2002, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC), State Councilor and Defense Minister, General Chi Haotian paid an official visit to Croatia. Later in May, the heads of both states exchanged congratulatory messages to each other to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Croatian diplomatic ties. Also in May, Croatian President Mr. Stjepan Mesić paid a state visit to China. On this occasion, both sides signed "Joint Statement on Deepening of Cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Croatia". Later in November, Chinese Vice Premier, Mr. Li Lanqing paid an official visit to Croatia.

In September 2003, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Mr. Željko Antunović paid an official visit to China.

In June 2004, Chinese Vice Premier, Mr. Zeng Peiyan paid an official visit to Croatia. In October, Mr. Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, paid an official

visit to Croatia. Later in November, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Ms. Uyunqimg paid an official visit to Croatia.

In May 2005, Croatian Prime Minister, Mr. Ivo Sanader paid an official visit to China. On that occasion Prime Ministers of both countries signed "Joint Statement on Establishing the Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Croatia". Later in June, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Zhang Yesui held consultations with his Croatian counterpart on the level of deputy-ministers.

In September 2006, Chinese State Councilor, Mr. Tang Jiaxuan paid an official visit to Croatia, where "The Cooperation Agreement on Agriculture between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Croatia " was signed.

In May 2007, Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Ms. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović paid an official visit to China. Prime Ministers and Foreign Affairs Ministers of both countries exchanged congratulatory messages to each other to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Croatian diplomatic ties.

In May 2008, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Jia Qinglin paid an official visit to Croatia. In the same month, Croatian President, Mr. Stjepan Mesić as well as Croatian Prime Minister, Mr. Ivo Sanader and Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister, Mr. Gordan Jandroković delivered to their Chinese counterparts solicitude letters on Wenchuan Earthquake and offered humanitarian aid worth two hundred thousand Euros. Later in August, Croatian President Stjepan Mesić attended the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games and visited Liaoning Province. Later in September, Croatian Vice Prime Minister, Ms. Jadranka Kosor attended the opening ceremony of Beijing Paralympics Games.

In June 2009, President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Hu Jintao paid a state visit to Croatia, on this occasion both sides signed "Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia on Economic Cooperation", "Air service Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia", "Plan of Action between the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Croatia in the Field of Health and Medical Science for the years 2009-2012" and other documents. Later in August, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Mr. Luka Bebić paid an official visit to China.

In March 2010, Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister, Mr. Gordan Jandroković paid an official visit to China. Later in May, Croatian President, Mr. Ivo Josipović attended the National day of the Croatia Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo, on occasion of which he met with the , then, Chinese Vice President, Mr. Xi Jinping. Leader of the Croatian Social Democratic Party, Mr. Zoran Milanović attended the First EU-China High Level Political Parties' and Groups' Forum held in China.

In May 2012, heads of state of both countries exchanged congratulatory messages to each other to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Croatian diplomatic ties. Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Mr. Wu Bangguo paid an official visit to Croatia, when he attended the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Croatian diplomatic ties, and the inauguration of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zagreb.

In November 2013, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanović during the Summit of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) in Bucharest. Croatian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Ms.Vesna Pusić paid an official visit to China.

In February 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, on the sidelines of which he had a brief encounter with Croatian President, Mr. Ivo Josipović. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Croatian Prime Minister, Mr. Zoran Milanović exchanged official notes on further deepening of mutual cooperation in economic and other fields. Later in May, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of CPC and Vice Premier, Mrs. Liu Yandong, paid an official visit to Croatia.

In October 2015, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović paid a state visit to China, attended the 2015 Poverty Reduction and Development High-level Forum and held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the 2016-2018 China-CEEC Summit, Premier Li Keqiang met with His Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic on many occasions.

In May 2018, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Mr. Cao Jianmin paid a visit to Croatia, where he met with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and deputy speaker Mr. Željko Reiner.

In November 2018, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) and met with Premier Li Keqiang. In November, Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan paid a visit to Croatia and held meetings and talks with Croatian Prime Minister Plenković and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Pejčinović-Burić.

In April 2019, Premier Li Keqiang paid an official visit to Croatia and attend the 8th China-CEEC Summit in Dubrovnik, met with President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Speaker of the Parliament Gordan Jandroković respectively, held talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, met with journalists, attended the opening ceremony of the China-Croatia Year of Culture and Tourism, inspected the Project of the Pelješac Bridge and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents in various fields. The two sides issued "Joint Statement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia". With the theme of "Building new bridges through openness, innovation and partnership", the 8th China-CEEC Summit held in Dubrovnik issued "Dubrovnik Guidelines for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries". In May, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi visited Croatia. In November, Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković attended the second China International Import Expo and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Mr. Li Zhanshu met with him. In May, the Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Damir Krstičevic attended the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China.

In June 2019, the new Chinese Ambassador to Croatia Xu Erwen presented her credentials to Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

In January 2020, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković respectively sent letters of sympathy to Chinese leaders over COVID-19. In February, Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić-Radman respectively sent letters of sympathy to Chinese leaders over COVID-19. In March, Premier Li Keqiang on request had a phone call with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković.
