In April 1994, both countries signed the first "Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Croatia". The year of 1997 saw the signature of "Agreement on Founding of Inter-governmental Croatian-Chinese Scientific and Technological Co-operation Committee".

In May 2014, the Chinese-Croatian International Research Center for Environmental Protection was established in the National Park of Plitvice and Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended the inaugurating ceremony.

In July 2018, China and Croatia held their first joint police tour during tourist season in Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Plitvice National park. In July 2019, China and Croatia held the second joint police tour during tourist season in Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Plitvice National Park, and Zadar.

Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu paid a visit to Croatia in June 2019. Later in November, Croatian Minister of Agriculture Marija Vučkovic visited China.
