Mechanisms such as the Economic Joint Committee have been established between the governments of China and Croatia. China and Croatia have signed a number of cooperation documents such as Memorandum of Understanding on Belt and Road Initiative, and "Agreement on Economy and Trade" "Agreement Concerning the Encouragement and Reciprocal Protection of Investments", "Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income", "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Crafts of the Republic of Croatia on Preparing the Study on the Establishment of Chinese-Croatian Economic and Technological Zone", "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts of the Republic of Croatia on the Establishment of a Joint Investment Cooperation Working Group to the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation" and others.

In April 2019, Premier Li Keqiang attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Business Forum of China-CEEC with leaders of sixteen Central and Eastern European Countries and made a speech. In June, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Tomislav Tolušić attended the China-CEEC Expo and Dialogue on Customs Inspection and Quarantine Cooperation in China. In October, Croatia hosted the China-CEEC Energy Cooperation Forum, attended by Mr. Zhang Jianhua, Head of the National Energy Administration. In November, Croatian Parliament Speaker Jandroković led a delegation to attend the second China International Import Expo (CIIE), which was the first time for Croatia to participate in the CIIE's national Pavilion to give a comprehensive introduction of the country's economic and social situation. More Croatian enterprises participated in the CIIE.

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, the trade volume between China and Croatia reached US$1.54 billion in 2019, increasing by 0.2% yearly. Among them, the volume of China's export to Croatia reached 1.4 billion US dollars, increasing by 5.2% each year. Imports from Croatia amounted to US$140 million, declining 31.6% year-on-year. The main commodities imported from China from Croatia are wood, leather, alumina and stone, etc. China's main exports to Croatia are light textile products, home appliances, computers and other electronic products.
