The history of friendly exchanges between the Chinese and Croatian peoples can be traced back to the time of Makro Polo in the 13th century. On 25 June 1991, Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia. On May 13 1992, China and Croatia established diplomatic relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with fruitful exchanges and cooperation in political, economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological fields. In 2005, China and Croatia established comprehensive cooperative partnership, marking a new stage in the development of bilateral relations.
