Recently, led by the Ambassador's wife Madam Wei Min, the Women's group of Chinese Embassy in Croatia organized the celebration event of the International Women's Day. The female diplomats, spouses and family members of Chinese diplomats visited traditional Croatian heart-shaped ginger-bread workshop and learned how to make ginger-bread.
The owner of the workshop Ms Nina welcomed the Women's group from Chinese Embassy and introduced the history and production process for heart-shaped ginger-bread in detail. Heart-shaped ginger-bread is the most characteristic Croatian handicraft and listed as the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. Not only Croatians, but also many foreign tourists are fond of heart-shaped ginger-bread, because of its unique shape and bright colors. It is also the most important symbol of Croatian culture. Local people use the heart-shaped ginger-bread for festive decoration. Besides, they also send it to each other on Valentine's Day, wedding, birth of a baby and other important occasions to express their blessing.
The Women's group attentively studied the production process of ginger bread, completed the steps of moulding, starching and decorating and put their beautiful feelings and best wishes into every ''red heart''. The owner of the workshop Ms Nina specially sent the heart-shaped ginger-bread to Chinese Embassy as a gift, thanked the Women's group for their visit and expressed best wishes for Chinese people.
Through this event, women's group of Chinese Embassy not only had better understanding of Croatian history and culture, but also showed the elegant demeanour of the Chinese ladies. Chinese and Croatian people are also becoming closer.
